On Sunday, June 14th, Thunder Bay’s Jordan Staal was in the news having won the Conn Smythe trophy as the Stanley Cup playoffs’ MVP as Captain of the Carolina Hurricanes.
This victory brought an earlier one to mind for KS readers, Margit and Aarno Peura who wanted to share a photo memory from 2009. Jordan Staal was then #11 on the Pittsburgh Penguins team, who were the winners of the Stanley Cup that year. Each player on the winning team is given the opportunity to share the Cup with their community. Jordan chose the Hoito Restaurant as one of the locations where he would share the Stanley Cup, with his community of Thunder Bay. Welcoming him at the entrance is Aarno Peura, then General Manager of the Hoito. Aarno was given an autographed t-shirt, as was one lucky Hoito waitress.
